Church services are at the heart of St Edmund’s. We have three Sunday services at 8.00am, 10.00am and the evening service which is usually at 6.30pm. There is also a midweek service on Wednesdays at 11.00am in the side chapel. Morning Prayer is said at 8.30a.m. on weekdays. We also have special services which, as well as the normal Christian festivals, include Christingle, Environment, Harvest, Remembrance, Children’s Gift service and a Memorial service for those recently bereaved.
The Sunday 8.00am is a quiet reflective service with no music but includes communion. On the last Sunday of a month we follow the traditional Book of Common Prayer liturgy.
The Sunday 10.00am is a family service which usually includes communion. There are children’s groups in term time and 6 times a year there is a uniformed groups’ parade service.
The Sunday evening service varies in style. The monthly rotation includes traditional sung evensong, an ecumenical service, a Taize or Celtic style service and evening prayer.
The Wednesday midweek communion service is held in the intimate space of the side chapel.
Morning prayer is said at 8.30a.m. Monday to Friday inclusive and also at 9.10a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. All are welcome to join in saying Morning Prayer Entrance to church is via the north transept door.
Our special services include “Worship All Together”, “Sweaty Church” involving much physical activity and “Sanctuary” services under a tent in the chancel which includes prayerful, reflective activities.
Gluten free wafers are always available at Communion. Please speak to one of the church wardens before the service if one is required.
